About Our Guest
Kylie Zeal is a book coach and author who helps writers transform ideas, experiences, and expertise into meaningful fiction and non-fiction books. Proudly neurodivergent, she brings a distinctive perspective to manuscript analysis, helping authors strengthen clarity, structure, and authentic voice. Kylie has spent the past seven years travelling full-time while running her coaching business remotely.
When Your Inner Compass Knows Better Than Everyone Else
Kylie Zeal spent over 40 years convinced something was wrong with her brain. She masked. She tried to fit in. Then, three years ago, a diagnosis of neurodivergence, including ADHD and autism, changed everything, not by fixing her, but by giving her permission to finally be herself.
In this episode, Kylie shares how she built an intentional life around her own needs long before she understood why she needed it that way. At 41, with no home and no fixed address, she found the kind of contentment most of us spend decades searching for simply by listening to what her body and mind were telling her.
Kylie explores the concept of masking, the exhausting performance of being someone you’re not, and reveals how letting go of that performance brought unexpected freedom. She discusses how not having a diagnosis earlier forced her to develop invaluable tenacity and courage, and how the very thing that made life harder ultimately made her stronger.
This isn’t just a story about neurodivergence and masking. It’s also about listening to that quiet voice inside you that knows what you need, even when no one else understands.
Kylie’s Tips
Don’t wait for certainty before taking action. You never have a guarantee about how plans or life will turn out, so always take action (no matter how small) in the direction of what you want.
Trust yourself. You have as much intuition as you will ever need, so have the confidence to listen to it.
Be kind to yourself
